On Friday, September 13th, national powerhouses St. Thomas Aquinas and John Curtis Christain high schools met on the gridiron. After what quickly became battle of the defenses, Thomas Aquinas, ranked 3rd in DigitalSports National Football Rankings, broke away from the 11th placed, defending national champion rivals.
The first quarter went scoreless for both teams. The second quarter started with a 31-yard connection between St. Thomas Aquinas’ senior quarterback Wade Freebeck to junior receiver Devante Peete for the first score of the game. Senior running back Mardre London tallied two touchdowns with his 101 yards on 12 carries.
The Raiders continued scoring throughout the game and shut Curtis out for the first three quarters. The Patriots were able to notch 13 points in the finally quarter.
When the final whistle blew, Thomas Aquinas led 27-13, snapping Curtis’ 29-game win streak.
